At the 2018 START Conference, Terri Couwenhoven, M.S., TC Services presented a session titled, “Sexuality Education for Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities”. Although I was attending the conference, I was unable to make it to this session, but thought you all may like the links to the powerpoint and documents she used. The conference was amazing, by the way…In the next week I will be posting more on the sessions I actually attended, haha! Note: I have also added these links to the Online Resources section of this website.

New Driving School Page
I recently chanced upon an online discussion about local driving schools that teach kids with special needs (there are 4!) . My kids are not driving age yet, but I thought this might be a helpful list for some of you. If you need this service, please check out the new page on my site under “Local Resources”. Drive Safely, All! =)
Bowling Social Club
Hi All!
Before I moved to the EL area I organized a bowling social group for kids on the spectrum and was wondering if anyone here would be interested in getting together for something like that this summer. Maybe once every other week? My son’s developmental pediatrician suggested bowling to us because it is a group activity, but is also solo so it allows people to play at their own pace. Of course, siblings are also invited. Edit: If interested, please join our meetup.com group:

Additionally, kids can bowl FREE!!
=) If you sign up using the below website, kids get 2 free games every week throughout the summer at City Limits in East Lansing. So neat! Of note: the kids bowl free program is available at tons of bowling alleys all over the country, I believe, so even if you are not in my area, you should definitely see if your local bowling alley participates in the program.
Want to Participate in a Research Study?
A researcher at MSU told me about a research opportunities that may be of interest to our group members:
Welcome!
Hi! Thanks so much for dropping by the page! Welcome to the East Lansing Area Families for Autistic Children’s Education and Support webpage! I created this group because there is a similar group in Ann Arbor, MI (A2FACES) that I was a part of when I lived in A2 that was an amazing resource for me as a parent of an autistic kid. When I moved to the EL area, I had some trouble finding a similar online community/source of information, so I decided to create my own.
We also have a listserve and facebook page (more information is on the contact page of this site). I hope to post local events, training opportunities, and I encourage you all to ask questions if you have them.
